Emotional application of essential oils

I mentioned in my About Me that I use oils MORE for emotional needs than I do for physical needs, and it’s true. So let’s talk about some ways that you can apply (use) essential oils to benefit you emotionally.

Direct inhalation. This is the easiest, fastest application. This means opening the bottle and breathing in, through your nose.  I am going to talk more later about the olfactory nerve and its communication with the limbic center of the brain, but that’s another post. Grab your bottle, close your eyes, and breathe through your nose.

Diffusing. This disperses molecules into the air to fill the entire environment for a longer amount of time than direct inhalation. While we’d all like to have the time to sit around and say “ohm” all day holding an oil bottle, that isn’t realistic. So diffuse! The atomizer makes molecules small enough to be inhaled into the lungs when you breathe through your mouth as well as your nose. Also, you can set a diffuser to go all night long and inhale while you sleep. This will affect your psyche and you have (hopefully) 5-9 hours/night that you are sleeping and inhaling. WIN!

Topical application. You can put oils on your hands and rub them together, breathe in; but you can also apply to your brain stem, frontal lobe, auricular emotional points, chakra points, your spine, and your feet. Basically you get oily from HEAD to TOE, literally. One drop once is not going to do MUCH. I use 2-3 drops of each of 2-4 oils and rub onto various body parts that work together. My favorite is Gary Young’s Great Day Protocol. I keep these on my bathroom counter and use them EVERY MORNING.

Lastly, you can use essential oils as a dietary supplement. Young Living oils themselves can be ingested (the vitality line is designed for this) but there are also great oil-infused supplements like CortiStop. When under stress, the body produces cortisol. When cortisol is produced too frequently, it can have negative health consequences such as feelings of fatigue, difficulty maintaining healthy weight, and difficulty maintaining optimal health of cardiovascular systems.

Hi, I’m Carolyn! I am an Air Force veteran since 2005, a wife, mom, public relations professional, and essential oil enthusiast.

I first learned about essential oils in 2013 when I was in the middle of a very difficult pregnancy with my son. I had no idea at the time that there is a great range of purity and efficacy with essential oils, so I started using whatever I could get my hands on at the time; but without very strong results. Finally, a month before my son was born, I learned about Young Living and MORE importantly about the community of support that you get when you become a member. I joined a group of more than 500 users (at the time), which has quickly grown to thousands, and in that context I was able to learn about oils and how to use them safely and effectively.

After buying my starter kit and experiencing some very obvious results, I couldn’t keep my mouth shut about this product! Those of you who know me know I am nothing if not gregarious and verbose — so for me, sharing about oils came very naturally.

The first month I was a member, I shared with a friend who also bought a kit. I got a check from Young Living that paid for my next order. From this enthusiasm for oils was born a passion to share about oils with friends and family who needed them. I had no inkling that this would become a business for me — I simply told people what I was using and how, and helped them gain info about what they could use for their own health needs.

That month – December 2013 – my son was born. I had transitioned at that time from active duty Air Force to the Air Force Reserve, and was a stay-at-home mom of an infant, full time.

After about seven months of using oils with phenomenal success and sharing with those who needed it too, I decided to actually look at the income disclosure statement and the possibilities of me actually supplementing my family’s income with this as a business. I’d sold other things before, the kinds of things that you have to host a party in order to demonstrate — and I was attracted to Young Living’s business model because of the idea of residual income. I was already repeat buying myself through the Essential Rewards program, so it was very easy for me to see how gaining a customer base would be self-sustaining. This freedom would allow me to travel with my family and bring my business on the road.

That was July 2014, and as soon as I began to do the business on purpose I found that I could easily afford not only my own orders but family bills as well. I was soon traveling with friends and family, meeting new friends at company events, and tax deducting a whole lot of FUN!

Young Living refers to this as finding wellness, purpose and abundance. Wellness comes with the product. Purpose arises when you find a need to share with friends and family who need it as much as you did. Abundance happens when that sharing turns into an actual income that you can use to bless those around you, beginning with your family first then your team and then the world around you.

I want wellness, purpose and abundance for everyone. As a public relations professional, writing is a huge part of my job so the most natural thing for me is to share my oil uses through this blog.

Although my physical health has absolutely been impacted by oil use, I use oils most frequently for emotional health. And so, that is what I want to share with you. To me, this topic is endless.
